4 Steps to Staying Consistent in Business

Nothing is more important than staying consistent in business. People often say, success isn’t always about greatness, it’s about consistency. I couldn’t agree more.

Staying consistent in business doesn’t come by accident – it is a decision that must be made every single day. We all know a woman who seems to have it all together – she’s running her business, her family and somehow still has time for herself. Consistently.

That woman took the time to set up the proper structure to be that way. Read on to see how you can do it, too.

Step 1 – Figure out the “what”

Before you can be consistent, you have to figure out what you’re going to be staying consistent at. This is where many women start to fail – by not taking the time to create an action plan. I always start by doing a brain dump of everything I know needs to be done. This way, I have a high-level overview of what’s required of me.

You’ll also want to think about how long these things will take you and list them out as well. Feel free to use pen and paper, although I recommend using a digital tool that can be accessed from anywhere and easily updated. I use Monday.com to track all my tasks and projects.

Step 2 – Figure out the “when”

Another place we sometimes fail at staying consistent in business is by trying to add things on top of what we’re already doing. That can easily get overwhelming and completely throw you off your consistency game.

Instead, look back at the list you made of what needs to be done in your business and whip out your calendar to actually find the time when these things will get done. Be realistic about when you can fit in and adjust your life accordingly. Which segways into my next point

Step 3 – Make the hard decisions

When working at staying consistent in business, you have to be willing to make some hard decisions or have some hard conversations. Where do you need more support – even if it doesn’t feel good to ask? Where might you need to rid yourself of obligations that are no longer in alignment with your life plan?

Step 4 – Nest and invest

Have you ever seen or heard of how pregnant women nest as the baby gets closer to being born? They prepare the house for the new baby and get the nursery set up. Then many of them spend time every day in the nursery, imagining their new baby is there with them already.

I want you to do the same when staying consistent in business. Now that you’ve carved out time to work on your business tasks and projects, use that time consistently towards your business.

For example, you’ve carved out 12 pm to 1 pm for client calls every day. Even if you don’t have a client call that day, use that time to nest by preparing for the client you want in that spot. Call your prospects, follow up on proposals – whatever actions needed to directly impact your bottom line.

Finally, you’ve got to be willing to stop the bootstrapping and being comfortable with investing. Whether that means investing in the proper tools or team members or a coach, the sooner you learn to invest, the faster your business will grow.

Recap

Staying consistent in business is the key to your success. By using the steps above, you’ll be setting up the structure to make that focus attainable and sustainable.
